Celebrating the people, stories and spirit of York’s high streets

Positive York is our new space dedicated to the uplifting stories, community moments and everyday wins that make York’s high streets such special places.

Behind every shopfront, café, gallery and independent business, there is a story — of passion, resilience, creativity, kindness and connection. Positive York is here to shine a light on those stories and share the good that’s happening across our city centre.

What is Positive York?

Positive York is a regular feature created by the York High Street Hub to highlight:

✔ Inspiring people

The business owners, team members, volunteers and creatives who bring energy and heart to York’s high streets.

✔ Feel-good stories

Moments of community, generosity, collaboration and local pride.

✔ New openings & hidden gems

Celebrating what’s new, what’s returning and what’s quietly thriving.

✔ Small but powerful wins

The little things that often go unnoticed but make a big difference.

Positive York is not about polished PR — it’s about genuine stories from real people who care about their city.

Why We’re Creating This

York is full of good news — but sometimes it gets overshadowed. We want to help change that.

By focusing on positivity, community spirit and celebration, we hope to:

  • uplift the mood across the high street
  • strengthen connections between traders
  • highlight the value of local independents
  • support York’s sense of identity and pride

Our goal is simple: to bring a bit more warmth and light to the everyday life of the city centre.

Our First Edition Launches in January

The first Positive York feature will go live in January 2026, with a bright, hopeful look at the people and stories shaping the start of the new year.

Future editions will follow every season, alongside shorter highlight posts whenever something wonderful happens.
